Tango Emotions is a space for those who feel the dance before they understand it — for people who walked into their first milonga and sensed that something profound was happening in the silence between the music.
Argentine tango is unlike any other dance. There is no choreography, no fixed routine, no audience to perform for. There are two people, an embrace, and a conversation that happens without words. The leader proposes; the follower interprets. Together they create something that has never existed before and will never exist again. Every tanda is unrepeatable.
This site explores those deeper dimensions — the psychology of surrender, the courage of vulnerability, the way the embrace can become a mirror for everything we carry into it. These articles are written for dancers who want more than technique. They are for anyone who has felt time dissolve in the middle of a vals, or discovered something true about themselves in the space between one step and the next.
I am David Hoicka, based in Singapore. My professional life is in mediation and conflict resolution — helping people find agreement where there was none. Tango, I discovered, works on the same principle. Two people who may be strangers learn, in the span of a single song, to listen deeply, to trust, and to move as one.
I came to tango through curiosity and stayed because of what it taught me about connection. Not the word we use loosely in daily life, but the real thing — the experience of being fully present with another person, without pretence, without agenda. Tango strips all of that away. What remains is honest.
Tango Emotions is where I write about what the dance reveals. I hope these articles resonate with your own experience on the floor, and perhaps offer a new way of hearing the music you already love.
